OPERA FOR THE YOUNG WILL HOLD AUDITIONS FOR Cinderella
IN MARCH 2012.

In 2012-2013, we will perform 185 shows in elementary schools throughout the upper Midwest. Our version of Cinderella is a 45-minute adaptation of Massenet's Cendrillon with triple cast roles for soprano (Cinderella), mezzo-soprano (Madame/Fairy Godmother), tenor (Prince) and baritone (Father). The cast also includes three coach/pianists.

Cast members drive the tour van, load and unload set pieces, and field audience questions. Additionally, they train student performers who will portray mice, horses, nobles and other cameo roles. There are typically two shows per day/7—10 shows per week. Compensation is $52-55 per show plus $27 per diem and lodging while on tour. Each artist receives lodging and $350 for the week-long rehearsal period in early October. The tour runs October– November, 2012, and again from January – June 2013.

• Musical excerpt(s) and a monologue or dialogue segment from our adaptation of Cinderella to prepare (We encourage you to memorize the excerpts.) You may download the musical excerpts below.


PLEASE ALSO PREPARE:
• An opera aria in original language that showcases the best qualities of your singing and musicianship
• An aria or art song in English (original language or translation)
